Drop Everything & Read

A Celebration of Reading in CCS

Drop Everything And Read 2018National Drop Everything and Read Day photo album

On Friday 27th April, when the clock struck noon, students and staff of CCS stopped what they were doing and took time to read between 12-12:20pm. The main focus of this National D.E.A.R Challenge was to draw attention to the importance of reading for pleasure. The photographs captured on the day show lots of smiling faces indicating that the students thoroughly enjoyed this reading experience. Well done to all involved. A special word of thanks goes to The Art Department, Eadaoin Doherty (TYA) and Sinead Diver (TYC) for creating the lovely photo frame. Remember “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Dr Seuss.

National Drop Everything and Read Challenge (DEAR)

National DEAR CCSIt’s very simple – when the clock strikes noon, just drop whatever you’re doing and READ! CCS are excited to be taking part in the DEAR Challenge on the 27th of April. All students (and staff!) will be encouraged to take advantage of this time to read between 12-12:20PM. Book boxes will be provided in classrooms and students are reminded that they can bring their own book. This is an opportunity for first years to read their 'Book in the Bag' also. Our photographer will be on hand to capture the students reading for pleasure so you can be 'photo-ready'!

“Boxing” Down the Barriers to Reading

Book Boxes DEAR

On Friday morning it was "all hands on books” in Room 206 as reading material was sorted, counted and boxed. To our delight, the final tally revealed that we had received 1,100 books as part of our ’Book Drive’. As we began delivering the book boxes to teachers, excitement was rife. Some staff and students were even caught sampling the new reading material.

Thank you to everyone who contributed. Due to the huge success, we are extending the Book Drive for another month. We can’t wait to see everyone reading when D.E.A.R begins on Monday!

Drop Everything & Read (D.E.A.R.)

DEARWe will recommence the "Drop Everything and Read" program on Friday, at 3:05pm.

The 6th Year prefects will be making a weekly announcement to remind us to be prepared.
