Emma McCloskey, Caoimhe Murray, Ciara Harkin and Demi Donaghy from TY, all took part in the ‘Seagate Smart City’ competition in St Mary’s College in Derry on Monday the 8th of April. The girls won the competition with their idea ‘Smood’, which is a student mood detector in the school which aims to combat mental health issues. Well done to the girls with their success!!
Wellbeing Week took place in Carndonagh Community School from Monday 11th to Friday 15th February 2019 and was marked by a number of activities throughout the week. The five ways to wellbeing were used as the main theme for the various activities.
CONNECT, GIVE, TAKE NOTICE, KEEP LEARNING, BE ACTIVE
Student Council Representatives addressed students with various messages over the school intercom daily. Events varied from ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ for 3rd year students and staff, talks for senior students, a ‘PositiviTEA' party for all 1st years as well as a ‘Mindful Mile’ walk for all 2nd year students. A Spinning Bike challenge was organised by Mr. Sam Bogan as part of Schools Go Orange. SPHE teachers also centred their lessons around Wellbeing. A number of classes participated in artwork for displays around the school as well as creating a beautiful Wellbeing Frame for photos! Staff and students were also able to listen to a number of CCS musicians perform during lunchtime.
As part of our on-going support for students' wellbeing, CCS are holding a 60-minute workshop in conjunction with Jigsaw for all parents/guardians interested in or concerned about young people's mental health. The workshop will take place in the Aras in the Community School on Tuesday 13th November @ 7:30pm. We look forward to seeing you there. Niall McGee, Wellbeing Coordinator
Stand Up 2017!......Stand Up Week takes place November 13th-17th. CCS joins hundreds of schools across Ireland taking a stand against LGBTI+ bullying.

World Mental Health Day took place on Tuesday 10th October 2017. This day, observed on the same date annually has the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world. SPHE classes designed posters to help create awareness of the day. Further events to promote positive mental health within the school community will take place during our Wellbeing Week in January 2018.
Ernest Postrero (5A) and Ella Devlin (5A) proudly represented CCS when recently collecting the Cycle Against Suicide Ambassador School award at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham. The award recognises the excellent work by teachers and students in CCS to promote positive mental health. We continue to share the important message that "Its OK not to feel OK, and absolutely OK to ask for help."
