"Beatha an teanga, í a labhairt" mar a dhéarfá.

Seachtain na Gaeilge is one of the biggest celebrations of our Irish language. It is an annual event which takes place over a two week period during the month of March. In Carndonagh Community School an exciting programme of events was underway, with students from 1st to 5th year enjoying the various different activities. Tráth na gceist, Céilí, bingo games, spelling bees, photography competitions and creative crafts were woven into the week's schedule to mark Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Over 90 1st year students took part in our Fáinne scheme and were awarded with fáinní airgid and cúpla focal badges to show their achievements and oral proficiency in Irish so far. On Thursday afternoon all first year students took part in a Céilí mór in the Áras and enjoyed an afternoon of dance, Irish music and culture. 1st year music students played a few tunes and TY Irish dancers impressed with their fancy footwork. It was a lovely way to end Seachtain na Gaeilge Celebrations here in the school. Ten junior students also attended a music/Irish workshop in Gaelcholáiste Chineal Eoghain Buncrana with Irish band Seo Linn.

One of the highlights proved to be the TY and 5th Year Turas chun na Gaeltachta. 68 Students travelled to Coláiste Chu Chulainn Gaoth Dobhair for a three day taster course from Monday 13th to Wednesday 15th March. Students took part in Irish language classes, singing and céilí dancing at the coláiste and were treated to an array of outdoor activities including kayaking, wall climbing, a visit to Glenveagh Castle, Ionad Cois Locha Dun Luiche and a hike up Mount Errigal. Many of our students have already booked to return for the 2-week summer course.
