Senior Girls Soccer - CCS 2-0 Deele College

CCS Deele LadiesThe senior ladies kicked-off the season with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Deele College on Wednesday, 5th October. A fantastic team-worked goal finished by Shania McGonigle, and an own-goal were enough to see the ladies through. The scoreline may have read 2-0, but as Mourinho himself said this week, "It could have been 3-0 or 4-0 at half-time, 6-0 at the end of the game, but the result was 2-0; that's football". It was a real team performance from start to finish. CCS stopped Deele crossing the halfway line in the first half, with only a couple of opposition raids in the second. The squad can be proud of their performance as they look forward to their final group match next week against Milford. With news filtering through that local rivals Moville have pulled out of the competition, the girls are more focused than ever, believing that this is their year. If they can replicate a performance like Wednesday's next time out, they'll find themselves in another Ulster Semi-final.

U17 Boys Soccer - CCS 2-0 Moville CC

CCSvMCCCCS took all three points on a wet and blustery day in Carn (Wednesday, 28th September). Goals from Captain Kieran Farren and Cade Cooke gave CCS a well-deserved win against a very resolute Moville team.

CCS would have been out of sight by half-time but for the heroics of the Moville keeper who made four point-blank saves. He also commanded the box for a number of corners that must have easily been in double figures by the break. Moville had the crossbar to thank for keeping a long range effort from Jack Doherty out of the top corner.

Daniel Houghton was finally needed when a long clearance broke to a surprised Moville striker who shot low, but couldn’t beat the CCS keeper.

CCS made a number of changes at the break and picked up where they left off in the first half. Shots from Fionn McClure, Kieran Farren, and substitutes Pearce McCarron and Cade Cooke were all well saved.

The deadlock was finally broken with ten minutes to go - a long individual run from midfield by Farren was finished low past the keeper from a tight angle. Within two minutes, CCS had doubled their lead when Cade Cooke was slipped through the middle, finishing low past the keeper. It was a hard earned result, but was nothing less than the lads deserved having stuck to the game plan throughout. Well done all.

Team: Daniel Houghton (Pauric O’Donnell), Mikey Friel (Lorcan Bradley), Conor O’ Donnell, Ciaran Doherty, Lee McLaughlin (Nathan McKinney), Fionn McClure, Kieran Farren, Jake Harkin (Jordan McLaughlin), Corey McBride (Pearce McCarron/Sean McCrron), Jack Doherty (Anthony Doherty), Luke Rudden (Cade Cooke)

Cathal, Sam and Mr. Cavanagh Feature in Senior Soccer Ad Campaign

Cathal Farren, Sam Todd and Mr. Martin Cavanagh have just gone primetime, having appeared on Bank of Ireland's advert for the senior soccer season. The polished ad features three Irish Internationals (Richard Keogh, Alex Pearce and Wes Hoolahan), possibly a couple of future Internationals, AND of course one ex-International! The Inishowen lads refused to do any interviews, claiming to have used up all their cliches on the way down. At the end of the day, it's all about the football...

Senior Soccer Season Launched by All-Ireland Champs

Senior Soccer Abbotstown

On Tuesday, 30th August, Mr. Martin Cavanagh, Sam Todd and Cathal Farren travelled to the FAI's training HQ in Abbotstown, Dublin. Their itinerary for the afternoon included a meet-and-greet with the senior Irish squad and management. As guests of Bank of Ireland they officially launched the BoI sponsored FAI Schools Dr. Tony O'Neill Cup, currently in the hands of Carndonagh CS. There were whispers that a certain Mr. Keane was quietly looking for some managerial advice, but you'll have to ask Mr. Cavanagh about that...The boys certainly enjoyed the experience. They're pictured with Richard Keogh, Wes Hoolahan and Alex Pearce. Wes Hoolahan was overheard saying that you don't have to be tall to be a great footballer.

On Wednesday afternoon, 25th May, one of the country's most highly-rated sportsmen visited CCS for the Annual Sports Awards. The "Man From the Glen" addressed all the pupils involved in school sports. During his speech, Michael reiterated the key ingridient for his development as an individual and a sportsperson...Focus. He advised young people to surround themselves with positivity and to concentrate fully on the matter at hand, at that moment in time, whether it's sport or study. There is no better role model for our pupils than Michael Murphy and we would like to thank him for his visit and his inspirational words.
