LCA Fisheries 2016

Senior Pupils Fisheries College Visit photo album

On Wednesday 30 November, 22 budding fishermen accompanied by Mr. Liam Harkin headed for the National Fisheries College in Greencastle where they were met by Karl Vekins, Marine Safety Tutior who brought the group on a fascinating two-hour tour of the college. The students saw all of the very impressive facilities, engaged in firefighting duties, donned survival suits and life jackets, and tried out the extremely realistic simulators where some students got a chance to navigate their virtual boat in a storm force 10 gale off the Scottish coastline. As thes photographs clearly illustrate, the students loved the day and many of them are now firmly setting their sights on completing either a Fishing Vessel Engineer course in Greencastle or getting their first Skipper's Ticket.
