CCS selected as Phase 1 school for Leaving Certificate Drama, Film and Theatre Studies

CCS is delighted to announce that we have been successful in our application to be a Phase One school to introduce Leaving Certificate Drama, Film and Theatre Studies from September 2025.

On Wednesday September 11th, Mr. Mc Guinness, Ms. Andrea Sellick and TY students Rachel Doherty and Alexi McDaid attended the launch of the new Senior Cycle subject at the Irish Film Institute, Dublin. Minister for Education Norma Foley was in attendance and remarked “In Ireland, we are renowned worldwide for our contributions to the arts and I hope this new subject, Drama, Film and Theatre Studies, will help students to consider careers in the arts industry. And who knows, some of the future students of this subject may have memorable nights at the Oscars in years to come.”

We were inspired and enthralled by the talented guest speakers at the event. Colm Bairéad and Cleona Ní Chrualaoi, renowned film makers behind An Cáilín Ciúin, and award-winning director Dearbhla Walsh (Bad Sisters) spoke of how they would have loved to study this subject when they were in secondary school. We were especially starstruck to meet Alisha Weir, the young Irish actress from Matilda the Musical.

Drama, Film and Theatre Studies will promote and encourage creativity as a basis for learning through immersive experiences. Students will have the opportunity to cultivate informed thinking through learning supported by creative and critical processes. We are so excited to bring this experience to our students at CCS.
