As a school community our hearts are heavy with loss, yet filled with gratitude for the privilege of knowing and working with Tiernan Doherty. His untimely passing has left a void in our school community, but his memory and the impact he made on all of us will live on.
Tiernan was a truly remarkable young man. During his time here, particularly in his Transition Year, he shone brightly. He approached every opportunity with enthusiasm and an open heart, whether it was on the stage, on the field, or in the classroom. One of the many highlights of his time with us was his participation in the TY Dance Show. There, he surprised us all, revealing a talent and joy that brought smiles to everyone who watched. And who could forget his unforgettable performance in The Chronicles of Carnia, where his comedic timing and playful spirit brought laughter and light to all of us.
As much as Tiernan excelled in the arts, he was equally accomplished on the sports field. He was an exceptional soccer and Gaelic football player, dedicated, talented, and always striving to better himself. But what stood out even more than his skills was his incredible team spirit. Tiernan played not for his own glory, but for the success and camaraderie of the team. His coaches and teammates remember him as a leader by example, someone who lifted those around him and brought out the best in everyone.
Beyond his talents and achievements, Tiernan was a young man of exceptional character. Polite, well-mannered, and respectful, he treated everyone - teachers, peers, and friends - with kindness and genuine warmth. He had a way of making people feel valued, and that is a gift that not everyone possesses.
To his peers, especially those who are now in their final year, I know this loss is especially difficult. Tiernan was not just a classmate but a cherished friend and confidant, someone who brought humour, joy, and a sense of belonging to every group he was a part of. His absence is deeply felt, but his spirit lives on in the memories and bonds you all share.
To his family, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Tiernan was a credit to you in every way, and we are grateful for the time we had to witness the bright, talented, and kind-hearted person he was.
Today, as we remember Tiernan, let us honour his memory by embracing the qualities he exemplified: dedication, kindness, humour, and a passion for life. Though his journey was far too short, he left an indelible mark on all of us.
Rest in peace, Tiernan. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed.
