U17 Girls Soccer - CCS beat Loreto in Ulster QF

Thanks to Ciara Devine and Cadla O'Donnell for another cracking match report!

On a cold, crisp winter's morning CCS travelled to take on Loreto Milford in the quarter-final of the Ulster competition. Loreto started brightly and exerted early pressure on the CCS defence but Aoife Doherty and Alannah Curran held firm and thwarted these early attacks. Loreto continued to probe and a well delivered corner was headed towards the goal, but Imogen McCallion saved comfortably. CCS settled, and with their first attack they scored a delightful goal. An excellent through ball from Alannah McLaughlin sent Orla Ward through. She beat her marker and expertly placed a low drive into the bottom corner...1-0. Loreto responded - a quick drive from midfield led to a snap shot that drifted narrowly wide. CCS rallied again driven by a strong midfield in Niamh Lafferty, Jamie Lee Collins, Alannah McLaughlin and Leona Duffy. Niamh sent the evasive Orla Ward through again; she danced past a couple of tackles before being upended in the box, resulting in a penalty which Maeve Doherty dispatched expertly...2-0.

After the interval, CCS took complete control. After two minutes, Orla Ward skilfully outpaced the Milford defence again to square for Leona to finish brilliantly to the roof of the net. The CCS fullbacks had an excellent game. Saoirse Monagle and Aine McLaughlin were relentless in breaking up play and creating chances. This led to another break from Orla, cutting the ball back for Maeve to finish wonderfully...4-0. The game settled again and CCS and Milford played some excellent and controlled football. Milford scored an excellent goal in the last five minutes warranted by their great play throughout. On now to the semi-finals for the CCS girls.
